This week's post

Well, I'm still learning how to eat in such a way that I am making a lifestyle change rather than "going on a diet". Weightloss will be a by-product of adopting healthier eating habits. But anyway, more on that later....

I only got 2 workout in this past week. I went on Monday night and on Saturday morning. I always make the Saturday workout because there is a reward afterwards. my wife and I go to the park for an hour, the we hit the Soup Plantation for a nice lunch. It's the only restaurant she'll go to right now because she is a health nut. So, I missed last night and tonight I'll play drums for 3 hours. That's not a bad thing so long as I don't drink more than 24 oz. of light beer.

Gotta get going now

It takes momentum to gain momentum. Where does that initial momentum come from? From somewhere deep within. I have a goal in mind really, My goal is to get down to 250 lbs. before I turn 40 years old. I'm 38 years and 1 month right now. Now that I've stated that I need to make it to the gym 3 times this week, well then I better do so. It's hard though to actually get there sometimes because I need to get my momentum back.

Let me just list some of the reasons I can think of for not going to the gym and doing Workout "A". 1) Playoff Basketball is going on right now; 2) My knee is sore; 3) I'm metally tired from work; 4) I don't enjoy a crowded gym too much; 5) I feel lazy after work and unmotivated; 6) I feel insecure with my body image and I feel grossly overweight; and 7) I have an overwhelming and compulsive desire to stay home and try to make myself feel better by eating more food than I need and drinking alcohol.

OK, that was exciting....Now here are some reasons for going: 1) I'm fat and I want to feel better about myself 2) The gym has weightlifting equipment that can help me lose weight by gaining muscles 3) It's a heart-smart thing to work up a good sweat everyday; 4) I do feel better after a good workout; 5) I stay strong so I can do the things I want to do; 6) It's the only realistic way I can achieve my dreams; and 7) It will greatly improve my chances for success in my career and my life.

I think I'm just about ready to go now. It's 8pm and I have a 9 pm appointment with a crunch machine. So I'll catch you all on the flip side.

Starting all over again...

It's gonna be rough.....so rough.....

Anywho, nobody comes here and reads this stuff any how, so I guess I am writing to people who will be here in the future.

I'm not going to worry about posting anything here except my weight loss journal.

Even if it takes two or three years, here I'll be writing this journal about the journey that I had to take. Part of my dream, besides losing the weight, is to be an inspiration to other men who find themselves in the same situation. It truly is a journey we must undergo. Losing weight is never an easy quest, but we must think of it as a journey or quest or even a war or campaign. For all of these things one must be prepared first.

I went to the gym twice last week and I'm gonna try to get there three times this week. I'll be doing the 3-day routine that I've previously posted. I can do this routine as long as I don't go too heavy on most of the weightlifting exercises.

Honestly...

I've been slacking. I haven't been doing this work out at all. I didn't go last night. This is officially going to end today. I am going to walk 2 miles tonight. This will be updated more frequently (as much as I can), but with mostly information on my weightloss progress, trials and tribulations. Of course there will be failure; hopefully lots of successes too. Stay tuned....

Weightlifting Program

Note: I am not an expert nor do I claim to be a fitness freak. What I have done is my homework: I studied all the moves, the right exercises and the experts' programs. I had to develop a program that would work for me....a huge guy! I wanted to design something that would give me the biggest gains in muscle with the least amount of total time spent. I just want to get in and out of there. I bust out these Workouts pretty fast, but you can take your time if you want. It's only a few exercises for four days per week. Why muscle you say? Because muscles rev up the metabolism and burn fat. I'm not going to tell you how many sets and reps. That's up to you.

Tips from "X" Scale Tippers

This is a feature I'm going to do on this blog. I'm going to feature tips from people who have lost 100 pounds or more. Part of my mission is to make this kind of weightloss a reality not only for myself, but for anybody who wants free advice. It pisses me off that everybody wants to make a buck off the unfortunate food addicts of the world. I for one am tired of it, and if I can figure out a way to do it, then it's going to be free for all the fat people to access and use. In fact, I hope this blog does succeed, and I hope thousands and thousands of people do it for free because they have people like me in this world willing to give them the free information that they need. So here we go...

There are a few good tips here...

My slim-down techniques: Eating foods with lots of fiber, such as low-fat bran muffins and kidney beans. They keep me full. Also, cutting out all unnecessary sugars, like soda.
--My favorite diet food: A Wendy's side salad with a small side of chili poured on top. The whole meal is only 270 calories.
--My snacking tips: Instead of totally depriving myself of sweets, I keep some stowed away in the freezer. Every once in awhile, I'll treat myself to one pastry. It's usually on Tuesday afternoons, after I weigh myself for the week!
--My exercise routine: Walking or riding my bike three miles each day. I also do leg and arm lifts every chance I get while watching television or talking on the phone.
--Stay-slim advice: Don't diet for anyone but yourself. You need to put yourself completely into it in order to succeed.
--The payoff: I have a love for myself that I've never had in 55 years. My self-esteem has skyrocketed. Recently, my son told me how proud he was that I was able to lose so much weight. That was a great feeling!

Now don't think that I read Good Housekeeping online, I just found it doing a search engine search. I like this one too...

Our slim-down techniques: "We no longer eat huge meals. We also stay away from foods that are tempting (like pizza and chips)," says Butch.
Kept the weight off: Six months for Ann; two years for Butch
Our best motivator: "Knowing that we've done it together. We don't let each other slip back into bad habits; we've come too far," says Ann. Butch adds: "Without Annie, I couldn't have done it."
Our favorite diet food: Air-popped popcorn, spiced up with Cajun seasoning and hot-red pepper. Also, raw mushrooms with a little fat-free dressing.
Our snacking tips: "I'll have a small bowl of pickled vegetables or vegetables with dip using low-fat sour cream," says Ann. "At work, I'll bring a granola bar or some fruit to snack on," says Butch.
Our exercise routine: "Together we'll walk three miles a day four or five days a week. In warm weather, we'll bike on the trails," says Ann.
Slim-down advice:
Ann: "Learn to read nutrition labels, especially calories. Foods you think are good for you sometimes aren't."
Butch: "Eat breakfast. I eat oatmeal every day. It fuels me all morning, and I don't think about food until it's time for lunch."
The pay-off: "Proving to myself that I can do it, " says Ann. For Butch, it's "knowing that I'll be around for Ann and my two boys' graduation, marriage and my grandchildren."

I can see a common thread between these people besides better eating habits. The common thread is walking three miles five days per week.

Creative Panhandling

If you're gonna ask for money, try being a little creative next time. Take this man for instance...I almost want to give him Kung-Fu lessons myself. Oh, the guy with the blonde hair is my friend, Stuart. Yes, he is unfortunate looking, but this guy brews some great homemade ale; so I gotta give him accolades for that.

A Good Short Story

This blog is not all about weightloss. This isn't a "weightloss blog" per say, although that is an important part of what's going on in the cave. I like to enjoy things around me and enjoy things on the internet. So if I run across something cool, I'm going to share it with everybody. So, that being said, this is a gem of a website and a gem of a story if you like Jack London. As a side note, legend says that this was Lenin's favorite story of all time.

LOVE OF LIFE by Jack London

Exhibit "A"

Yes, this is me. OK, so I'm not as hairy as a caveman should be. I do live in a cave though.....figuritively.

I did enjoy my pizza and beer. I've never been much of a candy person. Maybe a cookie person, but definately not candy. Too much chocolate will give me a migrane.

Magic eye

These are some of the coolest pictures I've ever seen because if you look at the picture just right, you can see a 3-D image. I'm sure you all know this. It takes a little practice though because you gotta relax your eyes and kinda look through the picture.

Mission Statement

So, what is the purpose of this blog?

Basically, it's just a journal of my life and the world we live in.

I am a 38 year old guy who is married to a wonderful woman. We have no kids, but someday that might be a possibility if I lose some weight. That's my mission in life now. I need to lose weight. That will be part of what this blog is about, but it is mostly about the way I see the world.

If you look hard enough...

Welcome to "the cave". Sure, I've had other blogs, but they didn't suit me anymore. My last one was a learning experience as to how to best handle a blog and what to do with it. I think I've finally got the hang of doing a blog the right way and now that you've found this place, please stick around for awhile and enjoy it. There's many things I've yet to explore. I guess you'll just have to find out who I am as we go along because I'm not giving too much away in the beginning. I prefer to remain as this picture above suggests. It really won't look like much more than a bunch of colors all mixed up until you learn how to really look at it.
